"Let me kiss thy mouth": Salome's refrain to a protesting John the Baptist in Oscar Wilde's play Salome, and my own thoughts whenever I see a photo of Wilde in the full flush of his dapper, dashing youth. Indeed, his headstone is smothered with kisses--lipstick prints new, old, and fading. He dared to be himself, and the more I reread him, the more I love him for it.
