Wanting to redecorate along Surrealist lines, a friend of mine commissioned me to do a small Dali-inspired painting. Salvador Dali's most famous piece is arguably his "Persistence of Memory" (i.e. the melting clocks), so I decided to try a different take on the theme of fluid, finite/infinite time. I used my paint water cup and an eye dropper to study the ripples and decide on the spacing for the drops.
The requested 8 x 10" size worked well with the inspiration for the piece, as the original "Persistence of Memory" is all of 9.5 x 13." A few years ago, I had the chance to see it in person in NY's Modern Museum of Art. How odd it was to stand before so famous, so tiny a painting!
