Never give up, never surrender.

Con family member Heather had the most marvelously scrappy chicken. Scrappy was constantly terrorized by the other birds despite Heather's best efforts, to the point that Scrappy had no proverbial f**** left to give. Pictures immortalized a balding bird with a confrontational gaze. Scrappy would not be broken.

Scrappy was Heather's favorite chicken, and our con family was equally enamored, adding to the Legend of Scrappy each time we met. We envisioned her cruising the post-apocalyptic wasteland in a beater vehicle, with a barbed wire nest in the backseat and spiked eggs at the ready to take on marauders. There was even a debate as to whether the eggs would have spikes on the inside, the outside, or both--regardless, Scrappy could take it.

Believe it or not, Scrappy passed away of natural causes after a long (by chicken standards) life. Those of us who knew and love her have alternative theory, however. Since Heather never saw the actual body (thanks to HOA shenanigans, she had to pass Scrappy onto a relative), we like to think that Scrappy faked her death, leaving only a few feathers behind after a massive explosion and/or fire. Pyrotechnics aren't just assumed with Scrappy--they're required.

Power to you, Scrappy, wherever you may be.
