Precious.

Like "A Fox Named Fable," this painting was inspired by the Medieval exhibits at the Art Institute of Chicago. I've always found reliquaries fascinating, and the museum had some particularly unusual and unusually beautiful examples. My favorite was the life-size wooden bust of a female saint that ended below the shoulders, with a small hollow in her chest to hold the (now missing) relic. After the obvious thoughts of Make-Shift Angels, my next thought was of a barn owl with a carefully kept egg. Painting logic is its own beast, let me tell you.
