Descent.
This painting is owed in large part to my love of the Pre-Raphaelites. I finally had some free time to enjoy the art books thoughtfully gifted by Santa and the Birthday Fairy, and I was overcome with the need to paint cloth half so beautifully as John Everett Millais. I also wanted to challenge myself to paint a natural skin tone (a rarity in my work), unusual poses, and feet. The known quantity would be the model, Silvia Alessandrini, whose lines are like old friends at this point. I genuinely wasn't sure where the painting was going at first, but I was willing to trust in it. Only near the end did I realize she was Persephone, and all the choices beforehand suddenly made perfect sense. My thanks to Silvie for modeling.
