Loss; lost.

When I painted my first "Make-Shift Angel" back in 2007, I didn't expect it to become a series, but time has proven otherwise. Indeed, they are my favorite paintings of my own and are quite often the most personal.

This is my first male angel in some time. The series skews towards women largely thanks to my favorite model, whom I never tire of painting. Working on "Ruin" made for a nice change, in more ways than one. While most Make-Shift Angels bare their stitches boldly, "Ruin" is secretive about his wounds; their precise nature is unknown even to me. As his pose and setting suggested a loss that cut far beyond flesh, I let him be. Whatever his pain, it is his, and his alone.
