Paintings: Medusa / Restraint

"Medusa / Restraint"
8 x 10"
Acrylic on oval canvas

Don't blink.

Medusa has been on my "I'd love to paint that" list for ages. However, I wanted mine to be self-conscious of her powers and surrounded by jewel-toned snakes. Upon researching snakes that were local to Greece, where Medusa's myth originates, I found the local species were mostly brown and black. Just this once, I'm telling my nerdy/historian side to hush, it's mythology, I can use green tree pythons if I want. Greece doesn't have any native pythons, naturally, but I stand by my willful mistake. The cool greens against her warm skin are just too perfect.
