As usual, what was meant to be a quick painting to get my muse back into the swing of things ended up taking far longer than I anticipated. Part of that is my own fault, as I started this piece mostly for the sake of getting something done after nearly a month away from my paint box. I wish you could see its true brightness, but it neither photographed, nor scanned well thanks to its odd size and the canvas' texture.
Unlike my painted pride of lions, foxes have appeared in my work only once before, and I thought it would be interesting to experiment with their traditional red and white coloring. As to why I chose an Aurora Borealis background, I'd never attempted one before. And yes, that really is how I decide what to paint sometimes, for better or for worse. "Have I tried that yet? No? Okay, then that will go... here!"<
