Athesteria is the holiday where last year's wine is first uncorked. The day was sacred to Dionysus, the thrice-born, and my goal was to create a timeless setting. As requested, the painting is predominantly purple and green--the god's colors--with a sense of anticipation among the assembled animals. The adult animals, anyway--the kits are naturally distracted!
