This piece has a few technical problems, I know (much as I love watercolor, I do wish it was more lenient towards mistakes!). However, on the whole I'm pleased with the final product and the departure from my regular subject matter. Xian-He is the Chinese word for the Japanese crane, which was believed to be a purveyor of wisdom, as opposed to the cranes which brought immortality and peace (called tian-he). Cranes were also thought to transport Taoist sages between heaven and earth. If anyone knows more about this mythology or would like to correct my research, I'd appreciate it.
